Lupita’s Cantina – Restaurant Design

This was my first project with full creative freedom. Over the course of a year, my mom and I turned a spider-ridden, closed-down building into a colorful Mexican restaurant in the heart of Perrysburg. After handling new, plumbing, concrete floors, new bathrooms, we were able to get creative with our designs.

I hand-painted tabletops, styled the bar and walls, and added greenery and décor to create a vibrant, hacienda-inspired atmosphere. We are planning on having a phase 2 of renovations in 2027 which will consist of new furniture.

Our goal was to work with the historic building’s existing structure. By painting the original wooden booths in vibrant colors, we introduced contrast, preserved craftsmanship, and reinforced the authentic Mexican aesthetic.

I enhanced the existing tables by hand painting original patterns and finishing them with epoxy resin, combining artistry with functional durability.

The original lighting fixtures carry the story of the building, so we chose to keep them intact while layering in small accents to give the space a unique, personal feel.

Neutral plaster walls serve as a backdrop for vibrant Talavera accents and greenery, creating a balance of calm and energy within the space.

Repainting the ceiling transformed what was once a peeling bronze surface into a feature of depth and warmth, keeping the space elegant yet welcoming.

From the vibrant bar seating to the hand-painted tables and star lanterns, every detail was chosen to immerse guests in the joyful spirit of Mexico.

The mix of brick, greenery, and soft lighting creates a vibrant atmosphere where guests can feel comfortable and connected..
